Sri Padmavati Temple Tirupati
Goddess Padmavati
wife of Lord Venkateshwara resides in the foot hill of Tirumala. The
temple of goddess Padmavathi is at a distance of 5kms from Tirupati in
Tiruchanoor or Alamelumangapuram. The devotees believe that a visit to
goddess Padmavathi is a must before visiting Lord Venkateshwara temple
in Tirumala.
The story in the epics about the separate temple of Lord Venkateshwara and his wife Goddess Padmavathi is narrated as follows:-
"Once upon a time Goddess Padmavati or Maha Lakshmi got angry with Lord Venkateshwara due to Bhrigu Maharishi and went inside the earth or patal lok where after sometime she spent 12 years as self punishment on the bank of river Swaranamukhi". After spending such a long time she came out from the golden lotus in the form of Padmavathi. According to the Hindu calendar the day on which she came out was Karteeka month on 5th day or panchami.

Festivals in Padmavati Temple

Important festivals celebrated in Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple are Navarathri festival (Dasara), Kartheeka Brahmotsavam, Float festival, Vasanthotsavam and Rathasapthami. The other festivals are celebrated in Sri Sundara Rajaswamivari Temple like Avatharotsavam for 3 days.
The temple has a daily program which starts at 5am in the morning. The temple program is as follows:-
